Sometimes when one is so focused on where to go next in this big, huge world, we lose sight of things close to home.  A saying uttered by Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz comes to mind when she was asked a question, “What did you learn?” by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.  Dorothy replied “when looking for your hearts desire, sometimes you don’t have to look further than your own back yard.”  That being said, I’m sharing with you something I found in my own back yard.  Even though it’s a bit overcast today in San Francisco, here is a way that a local museum is celebrating the arrival of Spring.

For the last 33 years, the DeYoung Museum has hosted an amazing event working in collaboration with more than 120 of the most in-demand floral designers from the Bay Area and beyond, who are tasked with drawing inspiration for their floral arrangements from the permanent collection of art in the museum.

Some of the arrangements are strikingly simple, others are elaborate and intricate.  Some are quite literal in their interpretation, others much more abstract. Over the last thirty years, Bouquets to Art has raised more than $6 million in support of the Museum’s conservation projects, special exhibits, education programs and direct support to the deYoung Museum and the Palace of Legion of Honor.  Where would this world be without the influence of art and creativity to color our world?

Throughout the six day exhibit, there are catered luncheons, book signings about flowers, a luxury raffle for a trip to Bali, and scheduled times to speak to the flower designers about their displays.

The floral designers may be onsite throughout the week to maintain their designs.  It’s quite a job to keep these looking immaculate!

I will let these beautiful flowers speak for themselves.  I tried to include the work of art which inspired the floral arrangement in my photos.  Artists come in all forms and what an awe inspiring exhibit this was of art, beauty,  and nature brought together.

The exhibit only lasts for six days, but make sure and put this on your list of things to do to celebrate Spring when you’re in San Francisco.  It’s a wonderful way to put a little sunshine in your day.
